Ukrainian-Romanian Fair of Ideas took place on the 24th of November in Ivano-Frankivsk within the frames of International investment and economic forum “Partnership and Perspectives”.

Within the Fair the final round of the debates under the topic “The State should encourage innovations for saving non-renewable types of energy and resources” occurred. The participants of the debates were Ukrainian and Romanian students and post-graduates who are the best speakers of the semi-final rounds that took place in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine) and Baia Mare (Romania).

Representatives from business, government, public, experts in the sphere of energy saving and, of course, the best speakers of Debate Tournament (which took place on May 17-18, 2011) had an opportunity to visit Maramures County (Romania) and familiarize with objects that efficiently use energy-saving technologies.
Regional Student Debate Tournament "Business and Energy Saving" in Romania

In June 10-11, 2011 in Baia Mare (Romania) (Sport and Youth Department of Maramures County) the Regional Student Debate Tournament "Business and Energy Saving" was held.
The tournament consisted of four training rounds and semifinals, which brought together the best debate speakers. In each training round was discussed a different topic related to the general tournament resolution. The regional tournament in Baia Mare for semi-final round was chosen the theme "Europe must increasingly rely on nuclear power" as in the Ivano-Frankivsk.
In May, 17-18, 2011 in Innovation and Exhibition Complex of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas was held a Student Debate Tournament "Business and Energy Saving" under the "Saving energy – saving future" project.

The tournament has become an event that attracted attention not only of students, but also scientists, local authorities and the public. The rector of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Professor Yevstakhy Kryzhanivsky and Deputy Chairman of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Ruslan Husak has welcomed tournament participants and guests. The tournament guests were representatives of relevant departments and divisions of State Administration and City Executive Committee, teachers, students, and school children (about 90 participants and guests of the event).

In April 29 in Baia Mare (Romania) was held a meeting of the "Saving energy - saving future" project implementers and Maramures County’ students selected to participate in a debate tournament "Business and Energysaving".
Meeting had the nature of acquaintance and friendly relations establishment. In addition, there was held a debate workshop in the Youth and Sports Department of Maramures County Council. In the workshop took part 19 Romanian participants – high school students from cities of Baia Mare, Satu Mare, Ocna Sugatag etc., as well as representatives of the Association "Ekolodzhik" - project partner with the Romanian side. During the workshop the students met each other, get information about the project and its expected results, reviewed the video recording of the debate, joined the team and received technical guidance and clear instructions on preparation for debate tournament.

On April 6 in Ivano-Frankivsk
held a introducing meeting at which students met each other, received information about the project and its expected results, reviewed the video recording of the debate, get technical recommendations and printed guides for Debate Tournament preparation scheduled by the organizers for 5-6 May of this year.
Exactly at this meeting were announced topics of Debate Tournament:
Topic 1. Are biofuels a better alternative to fossil fuels? Should their use be encouraged by government regulations?
Topic 2. Do market approaches have greater potential to reduce carbon emission than regulatory approaches?
Topic 3. Should water be treated as a commodity that can be priced as an economic resource and traded across international boundaries? Or is it a unique common good that should be the subject of international cooperation?
Topic 4. Should Europe rely more heavily on nuclear energy.
Topic 5. The government should only encourage financial innovation to preserve non-renewable forms of energy and resources
Topic 6. Economy is the way to reduce harm
The best student speeches will be included into thematic brochure on the project results. Students have the chance to become co-authors of the publication to be distributed not only in Ukraine but also in Romania and other EU countries.
